Branded Overvlay - City Connections at Night

Long-term market conditions in PJM are changing rapidly. As electricity demand grows, the resource mix evolves, and the transmission system expands, understanding future power prices has become increasingly important for development, procurement, and investment decisions.

Join Yes Energy's market experts Cliff Rose, Director of Product, and McKenzie Fowler, Director of Energy Modeling, for an in-depth look at our latest long-term outlook for the PJM market.

Explore the key trends expected to shape PJM's long-term nodal outlook through 2046, identify where opportunities and risks may emerge, and hear what these changes could mean for developers, utilities, energy buyers, and investors.

In this session, the outlook for energy prices refers to wholesale locational marginal prices (LMPs) in PJM through 2046, not retail bills. The forecast is built on a fundamentals-based nodal model.

What You'll Learn

  • Our latest long-term outlook for the PJM market and the trends expected to shape LMPs and LMERs.

  • The methodology and assumptions behind Yes Energy's long-term nodal forecast, and why transparency matters.

  • What distinguishes a defensible, fundamental forecast from traditional price curves.

  • How to access and apply these insights to support  investment, and procurement decisions.

What the 20-Year Power Price Forecast Shows

  • Load: Annual load rises about 72% by 2046, driven largely by data centers.
  • Prices: The average real-time locational marginal price (LMP) rises 82% to about $99 per megawatt-hour in real 2024 dollars.
  • Congestion costs: Aggregate real-time congestion costs rise 92% to $6.4 billion.
  • Congestion timing: Congestion eases slightly through about 2030 as transmission upgrades and new resources come online, then climbs as load growth accelerates.
  • Scenarios: Three scenarios show the range of outcomes: Equilibrium (the base case), Low Regulation (a more thermal-dominant future), and Infrastructure Expansion (a cleaner-energy trajectory).
